Our Story
The Foothills Quilters Guild was chartered in 1986 by a group of approximately 20 women who wanted to gather together to share their love of quilting. The guild has grown over the years and today there are approximately 80 members who live in nearby counties in both North Carolina and South Carolina.
In general, the guild meets at 7:00 P.M. on the third Thursday of each month at Ascension Lutheran Church, 300 North Lafayette Street, Shelby, North Carolina. The exact day may change due to holidays and the scheduling of guest speakers. The dues are currently $20 per year. Visitors are always welcome and the guild loves to have new members join.
The members participate in a variety of activities including workshops, splinter groups, fat quarter swaps, demonstrations and trips to Paducah and other conferences. The guild has service projects where members make and contribute quilts to local charities. The guild sponsors a biennial quilt show, the last show in 2016 had over 200 quilts entered. The next show will be in, October 2020. The guild maintains a library where a large selection of quilting related material, both printed and video, can be checked out by the members.
